Extractions

Welcome to Premier Dental of El Dorado Hills, where we are dedicated to providing you with the best dental care in El Dorado Hills, CA. Our experienced dentist, Dr. Zachary Rodriguez, is highly skilled in a variety of dental procedures, including dental extractions.

There are instances where it is necessary to remove a tooth. Some examples of this situation may include a baby tooth that is misshapen or has long roots that prevent it from falling out on its own. In other cases, a tooth with a lot of decay could put other teeth at risk, or infection could call for extraction. Another reason could be for orthodontic correction.

At Premier Dental of El Dorado Hills, we understand that the thought of having a tooth extracted can be stressful, but we want to assure you that our team is here to make the experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible. Dr. Rodriguez will take the time to explain the extraction process and answer any questions you may have, so you can feel confident and informed about your procedure.

Situations Necessitating Extractions:

  • Severe Decay: When a tooth is beyond repair, removal prevents the spread of decay to neighboring teeth.
  • Damaged Teeth:  When a tooth is damaged beyond repair, causing discomfort or pain. This can be due to injury, decay, or even overcrowding.
  • Advanced Gum Disease: Sometimes, periodontal disease can cause a tooth to become too loose, warranting its extraction.
  • Impacted Teeth: Often seen with wisdom teeth, an impacted tooth fails to emerge properly and can cause pain or alignment issues.
  • Orthodontic Preparation: To create space or achieve optimal alignment during orthodontic treatment.

Dr. Rodriguez performs dental extractions with the utmost care and precision, ensuring that the procedure is as painless as possible. We also offer a range of sedation options, including nitrous oxide and oral sedation, to help you relax and feel comfortable throughout the extraction process.

The Extraction Process at Premier Dental:

  1. In-depth Consultation: Dr. Rodriguez conducts a comprehensive examination, utilizing advanced imaging to determine the best extraction approach.

  2. Numbing the Area: Ensuring patient comfort is our primary goal. Local anesthesia is administered to numb the tooth and surrounding tissues.

  3. The Extraction: Employing refined techniques, the tooth is gently rocked back and forth until it’s free from the ligaments binding it to the bone.

  4. Post-Extraction Care: Our team offers guidelines on how to care for the extraction site, ensuring swift healing and minimal discomfort. This may include taking medication, avoiding hard or crunchy foods, and refraining from smoking or using straws.

Sedation Options:

  • Nitrous Oxide: Nitrous Oxide (also known as laughing gas) colorless and odorless. It is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask that fits over your nose. This mild sedative safely and effectively manages pain and anxiety during dental treatment.
  • Oral Sedation:  Triazolam (Halcion) is considered a type of conscious sedation. Triazolam is ideal for short to moderate-length procedures (2-4 hours), and is ideal for patients with moderate levels of anxiety.
